There are 207 bones at birth and as you become more an adult there are 206
Name two functions of skeleton
The skeleton gives the shape of your body and changes as you grow
The skeleton also protect your internal organs so they keep in the correct place
The skeleton provides movement the body
The skeleton acts as a storage to store calcium etc.

What is the axial skeleton
The axial skeleton is your skull, spinal column, sternum and ribs
Give an example of an irregular bone
Vertebrae, sacrum and mandible
List as many bones as possible
The Skull - Cranium, Mandible and Maxilla, Shoulder girdle - clavicle and scapula Arm - humerus, radius and ulna Hand - Carpals, Metacarpals and Phalanges Chest - Sternum and Ribs Spine - Cervical area (top 7 vertebrae), Thoracic (next 12), Lumbar (bottom 5 vertebrae), Sacrum (5 fused or stuck together bones) and Coccyx (the tiny bit at the bottom of the spine).  Pelvic girdle - Ilium, Pubis and Ischium. Leg - Femur, Tibia and Fibula Ankle - Talus and calcaneus (not shown above) Foot - Tarsals, Metatarsals and Phalanges.

The Axial skeleton consists of - the centre of the body, the skull and the spine and the ribcage
The Appendicular skeleton consists of - the arms, legs, shoulders girdle and pelvic girdle
